Everyday climate action must gather momentum to tackle the climate crisis – we can do this through education supported by sustainable practices
It is critical that we enable climate action for everyone, every day, in as many different ways as possible. This is how we will empower people, businesses and organisations to make a positive impact, increasing resilience and reducing the threat of climate change.
A recent report, from the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) revealed that ‘temperatures are expected to continue at or near record levels in the next five years, increasing climate risks and impacts on societies, economies and sustainable development’.
Sustainability Education
Against the backdrop of a deepening crisis, we must support sustainable innovation and choices. It’s hopeful and also exciting that there are innovative solutions and practices ready to tackle climate change. What’s more, green tech innovation is fostering new research and innovation through education, in our schools and universities. To make a real impact, we need to overcome challenges around adoption and funding, in the longer term, increasing overall security in the face of climate change risks.
Education in the broadest sense is core to this, empowering young people in education through climate practices, active learning, research and innovation as well as increasing awareness for everyone around sustainable options.
‘Young people are increasingly aware of the challenges and risks presented by the climate crisis and of the opportunity to achieve sustainable development brought by a solution to climate change… Young people … are valuable contributors to climate action. They are agents of change, entrepreneurs and innovators. Whether through education, science or technology, young people are scaling up their efforts and using their skills to accelerate climate action’ – United Nations, Climate Action (link)
Sustainability Education
We are proud of our work with schools and universities in the UK and Ireland. At AmuGreen we are committed climate action innovators. Our on-campus MyGug food waste to renewable energy biodigester series is supporting active learning, sustainability education and research. When we convert food waste to energy on-site, at source, in smaller settings for example in a school or university, we are generating a positive ripple effect through sustainability in practice, fostering innovation and new technologies, and influencing behavioural change.
Making ‘sustainable products the norm’
We must, crucially, ‘make sustainable products the norm’European Green Deal Circular Economy Action Plan. There is a strong appetite for circular economy globally, https://www.edie.net/the-role-of-trust-in-accelerating-uptake-of-the-circular-economy/
The urgency of climate action – enabling everyone, every day, in different ways to meet the threat of climate change, requires that we work together, from small-scale to larger-scale.
At AmuGreen and MyGug food waste to energy, we are driven by a clear purpose, to enable everyday positive climate action, with the aim of reducing risk and increasing resilience. We are innovating for sustainability bringing our green technology and MyGug small-scale food waste to energy digesters to the sustainable solutions market. Education is key.
